What is a habitat?

Answer 1: –

A habitat is the natural living place for an organism. It is a place where an organism is used to living and gets all its needs like food, water, shelter etc. from.

How are cactus adapted to survive in a desert?

Answer 2:-

Deserts have very hot and dry weather. Water availability is low. To survive in these conditions, the cactus is adapted some special features such as:

  • Leaves are replaced by spines to reduce their surface area. This reduces transpiration and loss of water.
  • Photosynthesis is carried out by the thick stem.
  • The plant is covered by a thick and waxy layer to retain water.
  • It has deep roots to absorb water.

4. Cooking Oil: Obtained from plants.
5. Apple: Obtained from tree.

The common characteristics of a living thing are:

1. Movement: The ability to move from one place to another or use their body parts for any purpose.
2. Respiration: Respiration is essential for living.

6. Reproduction: To multiply.

Explain, why speed is important for survival in the grasslands for animals that live there. (Hint: There are few trees or places for animals to hide in grasslands habitats.) 

Answer 8: –

Survival in grasslands highly depends on an animal’s speed. In a habitat, one organism serves as the food for another organism. Predators often search for easy preys. In this case, when there are only few spots to hide, the speed of the prey to outrun the predator becomes important for its survival.

Adaptation: Specific features, habits, and characteristics that help an organism to survive in a place easily and naturally are called adaptation. For example, polar bears have thick fur to survive  extremely cold climates.

Reproduction: The process by which living organism produce more of their own kind is known as reproduction. If organisms don’t reproduce, their kind will cease to exist. There are different ways of reproduction for different organisms.

Excretion: Excretion is a common process in living organisms to get rid of harmful and useless products in order to keep their body healthy.

Respiration: The process of exchange of gases by an organism, from its environment is called respiration. It is an important process for obtaining energy from food.

Growth: The process in which living organisms move from one stage to another in their life is called growth. For example, an infant grows to become a child, then an adolescent, an adult, and keeps growing old until death.

Stimulus: Any action or thing that invokes some kind of reaction in response from an organism is called stimulus. Like, plants grow in the direction of the sun.
