Important Terms Relevant for Chapter 3 – Fibre to Fabric: –

Cotton Wool:Cotton fibres are drawn from cotton wool, and cotton wool is obtained from cotton plants. The fruits of cotton plants mature and burst open, revealing cotton wool.

Fabric: Yarns made from fibre are either weaved, or knitted in order to obtain fabric. Fabrics can be of different types depending on the yarn used. We come across many types of fabrics in our day to day life, like Khadi and Polyester are used for making clothes, nylon is used for making tents, etc.

Fibre: Fibre is a thin thread or filament obtained from a natural , or artificial substance. Fibres are used to make yarns which are later used to make fabric.

Knitting: Knitting is a process through which a single yarn is used to make a piece of fabric.Example: Woolen Mufflers are made from wool yarns.

Spinning: Fibres are drawn from mass of cotton wool and twisted to bing them together and  form a yarn. This process of making yarn from fibres is called spinning.

Weaving: Two sets of yarns are interlaced together to make a fabric. This process is known as weaving.

Yarn: Long thread made by interlocking fibres, used for weaving or knitting fabrics is called yarn.
