Question – The distance between the school and the house of a student’s house is 1 km 875 m. Everyday she walks both ways. Find the total distance covered by her in six days.

Solution

Given : Distance between the school and the house = 1 km 875 m

= 1000 + 875 m = 1875 m   [∴ 1000 m = 1km]

To find: The total distance covered by the girl in six days.

First, we determine the total distance covered by the girl in a day. To do so, we will multiply the distance between the school and the house  by 2 because the girls walks both ways everyday.

Distance covered by the girl in a day =2 x1875 m

= 3750 m

Now, we obtained the distance covered by the girl in a day.

Next, we will determine the distance covered by the girl in six days.

Distance covered by the girl in 6 days = 3750 x 6 m = 22500 m

= 22 km 500 m   [∴ 1000 m = 1km]

Therefore, the girl covers 22 km 500 m distance in 6 days.
