Question –

A student multiplied 7236 by 65 instead of multiplying by 56. By how much was his answer greater than the correct answer? (Hint: Do you need to do both the multiplications?)

Solution

To find: Difference between the multiplication with wrong and right numbers

Multiplication with wrong number = 7236 x 65

Multiplication with right number = 7236 x 56

Difference between the wrong and right answers = Difference between greatest number and smallest number

= 4,70,340 – 4,05,216 = 65,124

Therefore, the wrong answer is greater than the right answer by 65,124.
