Question – In each of the following pairs of numbers, state which whole number is on the left of the other number on the number line. Also write them with the appropriate sign (>, <) between them. (a) 530, 503 (b) 370, 307 (c) 98765, 56789 (d) 9830415, 10023001
Solution –
On the number line (containing whole numbers), the smaller whole numbers shall lie on the left side of the larger numbers .
(a) 530, 503
We know that 503 is smaller than 530 i.e., 530 > 503
So, 503 will appear on the left side of 530 on the number line.
(b) 370, 307
We know that 307 is smaller than370 i.e., 370 > 307
Hence, 307 will appear on the left side of 370 on the number line.
(c) 98765, 56789
We know that 56789 is smaller than98765 i.e., 98765 > 56789
Hence, 56789 will appear on the left side of 98765 on the number line.
(d) 9830415, 10023001
We know that 9830415 is smaller than 10023001 i.e., 10023001 > 9830415
Hence, 9830415 will appear on the left side of 10023001 on the number line.
