Even Numbers and Odd Numbers | Maths Class 6

Even Numbers

Even Numbers are numbers which are divisible by 2.
A number is divisible by 2, if the digit at one’s place of that number is 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8. 

Odd Numbers

Numbers which are not divisible by 2, are known as Odd numbers. 
In other words, if the digit at one’s place is 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9, such numbers would not be divisible by 2 and would be Odd Numbers.

Examples of Even Numbers

Question 1

Which of the following is an Even number?
49, 12, 31, 33

Explanation

Even Numbers are numbers which are divisible by 2.
A number is divisible by 2, if the digit at one’s place of that number is 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8.
In present case, 12 is divisible by 2
Therefore, 12 is an Even number.

Question 2

Which of the following is an Even number?
296, 291, 317, 309

Explanation

Even Numbers are numbers which are divisible by 2.
A number is divisible by 2, if the digit at one’s place of that number is 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8.
In present case, 296 is divisible by 2
Therefore, 296 is an Even number.

 

Examples of Odd Numbers

Question 1

Which of the following is an Odd number?
26, 38, 14, 9

Explanation

Numbers which are not divisible by 2, are known as Odd numbers.
In other words, if the digit at one’s place is 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9, such numbers would not be divisible by 2 and would be Odd numbers.
In present case, 9 is not divisible by 2
Therefore, 9 is an Odd number.

Question 2

Which of the following is an Odd number?
490, 502, 478, 473

Explanation

Numbers which are not divisible by 2, are known as Odd numbers.
In other words, if the digit at one’s place is 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9, such numbers would not be divisible by 2 and would be Odd numbers.
In present case, 473 is not divisible by 2
Therefore, 473 is an Odd number.
