What is an Equivalent Fraction ?

Equivalent Fractions are Fractions that represent the same amount or same Fractions.

Equivalent Fraction Examples

Question 1

Check whether 4/5 and 12/15 are Equivalent Fractions ?




Explanation

On Cross-multiplying, 4/5 and 12/15

we get,

4 x 15 = 60

and

12 x 5 = 60

Since, the products are same

Hence, 4/5 and 12/15 are Equivalent Fractions.

 

Question 2

Check whether 3/4 and 9/16 are Equivalent Fractions ?

Explanation

On Cross-multiplying, 3/4 and 9/16

We get,

3 x 16 = 48

and

9 x 4 = 36

Since, the products are not same

Hence, 3/4 and 9/16 are not Equivalent Fractions.

Check whether 4/3 and 8/9 are Equivalent Fractions ?

Explanation

Cross multiplying 4/3 and 8/9

We get,
