Question – State whether the following statements are true or false. Give reasons for your answers.
(i)Every natural number is a whole number.
(ii) Every integer is a whole number.
(iii) Every rational number is a whole number.

(i) True
Reason: Whole number are a set of numbers including all natural numbers including 0. Therefore, natural numbers are a subset of whole numbers.
(ii) False
Reason: Whole numbers do not include fractions, decimals and negative integers. So, every integer cannot be a whole number.
For example, -2 is not a whole number.
(iii) False
Reason: Rational numbers can be expressed as a fraction, whereas whole numbers do not include fractions, decimals and negative integers. So, every rational number is may or may not be a whole number.
For example – 3 is a rational number as well as a whole number whereas 3/5 is a rational number but not a whole number.
