Question – Find the sum by suitable rearrangement: (a) 837 + 208 + 363 (b) 1962 + 453 + 1538 + 647
Solution
(a) 837 + 208 + 363
= 208 + (837 + 363)
Adding the numbers in the parentheses, we get
= 208 + 1200
Now, adding both numbers, we get
= 1408
(b) 1962 + 453 + 1538 + 647
= (1962 + 1538) + (453 + 647)
Adding the numbers in the parentheses, we get
= 3500 + 1100
Now, adding both numbers, we get
= 4600
Hence, the sum by suitable rearrangement of 837 + 208 + 363 is 1408 and 1962 + 453 + 1538 + 647 is 4600
